My Father (1920 - 1972) = Staff Sergeant Robert William Pennington. Eighth Army Air Force (The Mighty Eighth), 385th Bombardment Group (Heavy). This photograph is one of only two I have of my father and which took me over 40 years to obtain. Now I can see his face but, regrettably, I will never hear his voice or feel his embrace. |

| These village signs can be seen upon entering and leaving Great Ashfield, Suffolk, England. The theme depicts the sleepy village life of the 1940's combined with the presence of the B17 Flying Fortresses which were flown from the US base just a short way from the village center. The signs were erected just recently in honour of the men who served there and to those who gave their lives so that we may be free today. |
